DMS provides Mobile Dysphagia Swallowing Test (DST) services in many states throughout the USA, traveling to the skilled nursing facilities in addition to trach and vent, rehabilitation, and rural hospitals. Developing the protocol, equipment, and training of SLPs to provide the DST utilizing the FEES, or fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing to its patients,
DMS has been in continuous business since 1992. First operating as BEST Dysphagia Management and then changing the name simply to Dysphagia Management Systems, DMS contracts with the facilities to provide their swallowing instrumentation needs. Having the DST on site negates the need to send the patient out to the parking lot x-ray van or to a hospital for an alternate swallowing instrumentation. The specificity of the DST is superior to other instrumentations in that DMS developed diagnostics evaluating the Five Systems of Dysphagia© that looks at the whole swallowing mechanism, not just the mechanical aspects of the swallow. This approach is designed to provide the facility with as much information as possible to manage the patient’s swallowing difficulties in the most expedient amount of time. Results are immediate and all reports are written on-site so that changes can be made immediately before the patient’s next meal. Reducing repeat hospitalizations and complications resulting from dysphagia is the goal of DMS’s DST instrumentation.
